Best charcoal for the Cobb
I have been using these for year in my Cobb, whilst appearing to be more expensive, their longevity in burning means they are the most cost efficient cooking charcoal available. One filling (if the briquettes are placed on edge you can get about 12 pieces in the basket) will go for about 3 hours, although heat drops off after about 2 hours. They are clean burning, and once they are burning all over and the surface has gone white with a coating of ash they do not taint the food like some charcoal does. I have a Potjie cooking pot, I light the Cobb, wait for the Heat Beads to ignite correctly, then brown off the meat and onions in the pot, then add a few more briquettes to the basket (to top up so you can get the full 2-3 hrs cook time) and then cook the Potjiekos with the lid on, result, perfect Potjiekos. Wouldn’t use anything else.
